Based in Iqaluit, NU, these two opportunities on our Internal Audit Services team will appeal to skilled accountants combining auditing experience and familiarity with Canadian GAAP.

Internal Audit Services (IAS) supports the departments and public agencies of the Government of Nunavut (GN) by providing independent audit and consulting activities in a manner designed to add value and improve operations. IAS activity helps the GN accomplish its goals and objectives by carrying out a systematic examination of operations, advising as to the effectiveness, efficiency and economy of GN policies, practices, procedures and controls, and making recommendations for improvements.

As an Auditor, Internal Audit Services, you will be responsible for planning and performing assigned audits under the supervision of the Senior Auditor(s) and the Manager, as part of a comprehensive internal audit plan that is based on a risk assessment of GN departments and public agencies. These audits are performed in accordance with the Internal Audit Services “Charter” and the Institute of Internal Auditors’ “International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing”.

Your profile as a qualified Auditor, Internal Audit Services will include the following highlights:

Successful completion of the 3rd level of a recognized Canadian professional accounting designation program (CPA, CA; CPA, CMA; or CPA, CGA

A minimum of 2 years of Canadian auditing experience.

The ability to plan, execute, and report on internal audits in accordance with the “International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing” as published by the Institute of Internal Auditors.

A basic knowledge of Canadian generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP

A basic knowledge of the standards and guidelines promulgated by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Sufficient computer literacy to assess the efficiency of systems being audited.

The ability to use common word-processing and spreadsheet software, as well as to learn and use Computer Assisted Auditing Techniques (CAATs

Equivalencies to formal education and experience requirements that consist of a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.

ASSET:

Knowledge of Inuit languages, communities, culture and land, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.

Compensation & benefits: These positions are not included in the Nunavut Employees Union and have a starting salary of $90,363 per annum, plus a Northern Allowance of $15,016 per annum.Note: Subsidized staff housing is available.
